We have been getting some questions on adding tea bags to Bokashi Compost as the instructions usually do not include them as OK to add. Go to this Blog to view dialogue from other Bokashi Composter users on this subject. (If you cannot click on the link, copy it into your address bar)

The funding has been attained and the School District 64’s Gulf Island Secondary has purchased 16 Composters to continue to compost in the classrooms. We are thrilled to work with students and teachers to provide such a sustainable means of recycling organics. Plans are to utilize the compost in the school garden to enrich to depleted soils and help to break down the outdoor compost.
SD 64’s school superintendent is excited at seeing these composters in action and is looking to spread their use throughout the district. We’re looking forward to facilitating that!

Currently we are working with the local School Board and a group of students that are part of the EAGER Group headed up by Math Teacher Susan Robinson at the Gulf Island Secondary School. We will implementing Bokashi Composters as part of a Going Green Pilot Project within the school to divert Organics of every type from entering our communities’ waste stream. This was sperred by a successful pilot in a Salt Spring Elementary School Class Room late last School Year.
Our hope is that with some funding assistance and the ‘eager’ support of students and teachers, composting in the school system will be as fundemental as garbage and recycling collection. This will help our school district meet a mandate to be Carbon Neutral by 2010.
